Tane Mahuta

Tane Mahuta is a well known tree in New Zealand. He lives on the out skirts of the north of Auckland.

Tane Mahuta is 51.2 meters tall and 13.77 meters round.

Tane has a disease in his roots, so if he doesn't have enough water he could die!

Tane Mahuta may be a big and strong tree and will never have to be protected-well thats the thing, Tane was very low on water because of the recent water drought. So lots caring people of New Zealand pumped 10 000 liters of water from a river, over the one and only Tane Mahuta.

For 2 500 years, Tane Mahuta has stood tall and and proud, lord of the forest. Even the recent drought has not defeated him, thanks to the help of the caring people. Hopefully, Tane Mahuta will continue to live for many years to come.
